New build
Beck House
A four-bedroom house on a steeply falling site above a beck, in local stone with a fully glazed valley elevation.
The plot had been refused twice before we were appointed. Our architect reworked the massing into three stepped volumes that sit below the ridgeline from every public vantage point, which is what unlocked the consent.
Stone came from a quarry six miles away and was laid by a two-person team over nine months. The house runs on ground-source heat and tested at 1.8 air changes per hour, comfortably ahead of the design target.
Every principal room opens directly to ground level on its own terrace, which is only possible because the house steps with the contour rather than fighting it.
