Heritage restoration

Gable End

Hawkshead, Cumbria

A Grade II listed village house repaired, re-roofed in Westmorland green slate and quietly brought up to a standard you can live in year-round.

Roughly a third of the original slate was sound enough to relay. The rest was matched from a reclaimed yard rather than bought new, which took four months of looking and is the reason the roof does not read as new.

Insulation went in where it could go without trapping moisture in solid walls, using a fabric-first approach agreed with the conservation officer before work started rather than argued about afterwards.

Nothing here looks like it has been done, which is the point. The house is simply warm now.
